It's been three years since the release of "Satisfaction," and Benny Benassi continues to conquer the dancefloor with energetic DJ sets and a multitude of productions and remixes. Although he works under several different monikers (BAT 27, KMC, Benassi Brothers), don't confuse his work with imitators like the Royal Gigolos and the Global Deejays. With scandalous music videos and a label nurturing new talent, Benny Benassi is just getting started.
DJ Ron Slomowicz: How was Winter Music Conference for you this year?
Benny Benassi: Amazing, it was quite amazing. This year I played at
the Winter Music Festival, I played two times in Nikki Beach, I played
for a big party with Robbie Rivera and Mark Knight. And it
was very good for me, I played at the Nocturnal Club with David
Guetta, Josh Wink, and Misstress Barbara, and Bad Boy Bill, it
was a very good party. And then it was very interesting for me
because I'm starting to introduce my new label. It's a good label, not
for my productions but for young producers.
RS: OK.
Benny Benassi: Then we start to introduce the new productions for
this label and it's amazing for me, because now the Winter Music
Conference is a gathering for record company promoters from all around
the world, and you can organize everything.
RS: What's the name of your new label?
Benny Benassi: Pumpkin.
RS: When they watch you spin, a lot of people notice you have a
smile on your face, and it's a very specific Benny Benassi smile.
What are you thinking when you're spinning?
Benny Benassi: It depends at the time. Sometimes, for example when
I have a very beautiful girl in front of the DJ booth, I think about
that girl. But all the time I think from the emotion, from the music,
with the people. I love when people are excited for a record that I
play in the moment. And I think it's this, I love my work. I started
with the DJ residency and afterward put myself into production. And
for this reason, I love when I play.
RS: I know you've done work under many different names KMC,
Act 27, the Benassi Brothers, Benny Benassi, what other names have you
worked under?
Benny Benassi: For the moment, only these.
