RS: Your compilations are very wide and varied, what new
compilations do you have coming out soon?
Dimitri From Paris: The next one is going to be out early next year,
February/March, and it's going to be with Defected. I usually tend
to work with Defected and then go with other labels to do more
specialist or more obscure things. Defected tends to delivery it more
wide in terms of audience, so there's going to be a more sort of
mainstream house and disco compilation with a very strong theme.
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to reveal the theme right now, but it
might be a surprise for quite a few of the people who follow my
releases, because I'm going to return to a ground that a lot of people
loved.
RS: I've got two questions for you that came from fans who found
out that I was interviewing you. The first one is what was it like to
open for Madonna on the Parisian tour?
Dimitri From Paris: Well it was really exciting because I used to
play Madonna's records like twenty years ago, so for me she's always
been there with the clubs and with the DJs before she became the huge
international pop star that she is. I have a different love of her
than maybe most people and I know she knows what we DJs are about. So
for her and her management to specifically ask me, it was a great
honor. It wasn't just asking me, they actually had other DJs that
were booked up by the French promoters and they said we don't want
those guys, we want Dimitri and we want him to play at our Parisian
show. Then it turned out that Bob Sinclar and David Guetta also
played so I was very honored to be part of it and to be chosen by
someone who knew what we were all about rather than just being a name
that was put on a list. It was fun and in a great, great venue that
was very big. It wasn't the easiest thing for me to do because I
usually prefer like cozy places, but it was great. For me, the best
part was that she actually had a word personally into that decision
rather than being a whole big marketing agent's decision.
RS: Is it true or false that you worked with Sophie Ellis-Baxter
on her third album?
Dimitri From Paris: No, that's totally false. I really wonder where
that came from. I know that's an internet thing but I wonder how it
started because I have absolutely no connection with her and there
never was any beginning to this and I mean I never got contacted by
anyone close to her. So I don't know where that is coming from but
no, this is totally false.
RS: Is there anything you want to say to all the DJs out there?
Dimitri From Paris: I think the thing to say for me to the DJs is
stick to your guns. Music goes in cycles and it might be your cycle
right now and not be tomorrow or visa versa, but if you have your own
sound and your own personality you'll eventually get there. Too many
people change trends as they change shirts and unfortunately it
doesn't really keep music too strong.
RS: How about to the fans?
Dimitri From Paris: I want to say thanks to them because they help me
be able to continue and select more music for them. I'm really proud
that people other than professionals, like the DJs are, can enjoy and
appreciate the music that I do. For me it's a great honor, so I would
like to thank them.
