Moises Modesto may not be a household name yet, but with his new record "Like Water" that might just change. The classic house sound of the track, credited to Da Groove Doctors, was a major WMC buzz record with major support from Louie Vega and Tony Humphries. This is not Moises' first buzz record, with "Save a Lil' Luv" having been widely touted as the song of WMC 2003. As part of the Soltrenz possee with Duane "You Don't Know Me" Hardin and with the upcoming Lockin' Load project, watch out for Moises...
DJ Ron Slomowicz: So I heard you are doing an album?
Moises Modesto: Yes, I am. The name of the group is Lockin Load.
RS: Lockin' Load. What kind of music?
Moises Modesto: Well it's punk, you know, but it's house-based, it's
dance- based and we're taking a bite out of the Killers and Coldplay
and making it into house music and dance music.
RS: What kind of vocals are on it?
Moises Modesto: Well it's me, so I can't help but be very Latin in
nuance. So imagine Coldplay with a Latin singer.
RS: What inspired this?
Moises Modesto: Well what inspired it, believe it or not, was that I
heard Amin's album, I heard a little bit of what's happening in the
BBC scene with Pete Tong and I heard a lot of punk. And I'm an 80s
child so I figured, you know what, I'm going to give it a try because
that's my scene, and that's what made me start singing.
RS: You also have a single coming on Louis Vega's label
Moises Modesto: That's right. Well, like Water, Water's a great
track, you know, I produced the track, I had Dwayne come over and just
say 'listen, do your vocals, do your magic' and he did it, you know,
he dropped a lot of good dance music. Tony Humphreys and Louis Vega
were on it and it's a killer song.
RS: I heard that Louis Vegas gave your song the prime spot at his Grammy party.
Moises Modesto: Yes, he did. And you know, it's an incredible honor
for us, we mention Louis in the record and he plays it and he's in
love with the track, so it's an honor for us.
RS: Where do you see the track going?
Moises Modesto: Well you know, we see the track going, you know,
definitely commercial. And it's not a sell-out thing, we just want
the critical masses to enjoy the track, and it's a great song.
RS: What else is coming up?
Moises Modesto: We're producers by heart so we're always looking for
good talent. We are also working with Octahvia and we're working with
Arnold Jarvis on a new song, and he's going to be performing here at
the Winter Music Conference, so we're going to be excited to see how
the crowd reacts to that song too.
RS: So what do you want to say to all your fans out there?
Moises Modesto: Well I don't know that I have any fans yet, but I
hope that people enjoy our music. We know that we've only got fifteen
minutes of fame, so we hope to enjoy it. We're also doing a little bit
of reggaeton here. I do a little bit of Reggaeton, believe it or not.
And the name is Americano, so you know we'll make sure that everybody
hears it. It's also on BBC Radio on Bobby Friction and Nick Hall's
show.
