RS: What software do you work in these days?
Paul Van Dyk: When I'm in the studio it's Logic, and when I'm on stage it's Serato Scratch Live and Abelton.
RS: How do you plan to tour with this album?
Paul Van Dyk: Well, all over the place like always we do. There are some very interesting surprises on some of the festivals in terms of how it will be presented, thought it's a little early to talk about. The album is coming out in August and we're not touring that way until July, but you definitely will hear about it, with some special add-ons like at Ultra when I had my drummer with me. We add a central part just to spice it up, make special things, and make it more interesting. If you think along that line you might get an idea what I might do.
RS: What tracks so far are you most excited about on the album?
Paul Van Dyk: All of them. All twenty-eight tracks. I'm probably the only one who loves all twenty-eight tracks because they really range everywhere within electronic music. There are really banging techno tracks that might not go so well on the album in a way but it's always good to have a lot of music that no one else has to play out.
RS: Speaking of which, how is the Vonyc.com website going?
Paul Van Dyk: Very good, very good. It's like people are realizing what they can do on the site. Its completely free to listen to the latest and best in electronic music. Whatever you like you can legally download and support your favorite music and your favorite artist. I think people realize that by downloading the music illegally they're killing it. They are getting much more conscious about how they receive and consume their music It seems we are right in the middle of a lot of peoples' mind change, which is good.
RS: About consuming music, I hear you're really into this Placebo album.
Paul Van Dyk: They are one of the best bands in the world. There is one song "Pierrot the Clown" which I really like. It has this beautiful chord change that is out of this world.
RS: Anything you want to say to all your fans out there?
Paul Van Dyk: If I were Michael Jackson I would say I love you, but since I'm not Michael Jackson, I'll have to put it in different words but with the same meaning. I don't know the different words though. Thanks for all the support. Even when I'm down, whenever I'm in front of you guys and you smile at me, I'm in a different world. Thanks for that, nothing else in the world could do that.
