Yell House is producing consistently heavy-duty records lately. This
single, "Point Blank" is hard-hitting as usual. Four mixes: a Pierre J Club,
Dub, Radio, and the Original mix. Instantly I'm reminded of Bassment Jaxx; so
similar it's uncanny. So, if you're a fan of Jaxx, this is right up your
alley. The Vocal mix has alternative (distorted, saucy) male vocals, a
hard-hitting house beat combined with antic, playful special effects. The music
in the dub is a near mirror image of the music in the vocal mix. However,
the main vocals are dropped- yet a taste of the vocals are creatively
dropped in the mix, with all the toughness of the vocal mix intact. The
original naturally emphasizes the vocal and song structure, and goes yet
further with it's sinister carnivalesque feel. In the end, it's the Pierre J
mixes that hit the hardest with deep basslines, hardened kicks and
tightened-up production value. A slammin' hard house track.
