Alanis Morisette returns to clubland with her new single "Crazy," a cover of the classic Seal tune from 1990. Produced by pop-rock fave Glen Ballard, the original version is a guitar-fused jam which is everything a great Alanis record should be. The remixes present a wide variety to choose from, and there should be something for everyone to enjoy. The clear winner seems to be Claude Le Gache and his housey, radio-friendly remix (which has in fact been added to some dance radio stations in the US). Produced using his very versatile Apple Powerbook, Claude's mix is everything a great remix should be, given to us in both the mixshow version and also full-length Club Mix. The vocal looping and sweeping effects in Eddie Baez' mix are fantastic; unfortunately the mis-alignment of the vocals over the beats proves to be a big distraction. Taking a chance by lining up the vocals on the "off beat" so it sounds like Alanis is singing just a couple beats behind makes this mix too hard to follow along with.
DJ and remixer Monk (aka Pimp Juice), one of the founders of Rabbit In The Moon, also lends a hand to this remix package. Monk's Mix Of Meds – besides having the most distinctive title of any of the remixes – has a harder edge to it, complete with a more industrial, guitar-influenced vibe and fascinating sound effects you don't often hear in dance remixes today. Finally, the Interstate Full-Length Mix marries trancey synth effects with a mellowed-out beat and a grungy rhythm track. If you're an Alanis Morisette fan, you should already have her new Greatest Hits album "The Collection" which is where this new single is taken from. But if you also appreciate a song taken in many different directions and remix styles, then "Crazy" is definitely for you.
