I've heard for years nothing but great things about Alyson Calagna, yet never getting the opportunity to actually hear her myself. Though not the "real" thing, I was nonetheless thrilled when this CD landed in my mailbox. I checked the track listing, quickly losing my enthusiasm. Ralphi Rosario with Donna Blakely, "Celebrate" - wasn't that like from three years ago? Pat Hodges, "You Make Me Feel Good" - ditto. Made By Monkeys "I Try" again on a compilation? 'Think positive,' Nathan, I told myself. So I popped it in the CD player...
I'm a sucker for drums, I must say, and Miss Calagna kicks things off with a track by London 909 that satisfies my lust for all things percussive, following it up with another wonderfully drum packed song - "It's All Right" by House Family. I honestly didn't even notice, nor care, when the above mentioned "oldies" were thrown in. "Celebrate" is a great song to begin with, so I really shouldn't have worried that it was included. And the Pat Hodges track is actually just the acappella mixed brilliantly over a synth-y
underground track. Extra points to the DJ for that one. Making me gag yet again was the absolutely killer drum track by Brown Suger II, "Feeling Hot." "I Try" happened to be the unreleased DJ Paulo Mix which was a nice suprise, but like I said, do we really need it on another compliation? Other than that small complaint, the programming/tracklisting/selection is EXCELLENT!
This is the kind of CD that makes you long to be there on the dancefloor, sweating madly to the array of energy coming from behind the decks. A must for any party-souvenir CD. I was very suprised to say the least as DJ mixes and compilations rarely turn me these days. If you're into the circuit sound, tribal, or vocal house, then go out and pick this up today!
Recommended with two enthusiastic THUMBS UP!
