While having only two singles under his belt, Bryan Todd has still made waves in the dance community with his recent offering "It's The Way," remixed by Mr. Mig. From dance radio station airplay to heavy Promo Only promotion, fans in many areas of the world are being treated to friendly, groovy, poppy male-vocal club music at its best. "It's The Way" does have only one set of remixes, from the coming-out-of-hiding remixer Mr. Mig. For those of you who remember Mr. Mig from years ago, his new sound is nothing like his earlier works (such as LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live" or Hanson's "Weird"). These were so cheesy, they made Almighty sound like Richie Santana.
However, on "It's The Way," Mr. Mig manages to infuse a harder edge, but still retain the radio-friendly pop sensibility that he does so well.
The single includes three mixes by Mr. Mig (Radio, Extended Radio, and Club Mix) as well as the Ballad Version and the Acoustic Version. The song was originally recorded at around 88 BPM, that "danger zone" that makes so many remixers cringe. Speeding up the vocals was apparently not an option for the remix, so Mr. Mig instead chose to slow them down. Some sections suffer because of it, but not as much as one would expect. But Mr. Mig has come a long way from his earlier remixes years ago -- while the beats may not have the "oomph" in the bass that some would like, some of the synths sound almost like a trancey Hex Hector.
Great things just keep on happening with this release. From being added to the iTunes catalog in August, to Billboard's great review last month, "It's The Way" is receiving attention from coast to coast. Mr. Mig's Radio Mix is receiving heavy airplay on dance stations such as KNRJ in Phoenix, which is no surprise - this is straightforward great music at its best: a solid, well-written song, crafted into a workable, mainstream, fun remix. What more could you ask for?
