The bass queen returns again with another compilation mix that is sure to get any party jumping. The first lady of bass has been at it since 1992 and with over a dozen tracks and six mix CDs released, Mixtress is sure to deliver the goods. Baby Anne got her start from breaks pioneer, innovator, and legend DJ Icey. After buying a set of 1200s in the early nineties, she took the breakbeat world by storm and never looked back. This new release on System Recordings has further cemented her place in breakbeat history. These thirteen tracks are a direct representation of what to expect from a Baby Anne live set.

Mixtress starts out with a track from another Florida native, Jimmy Rhodes - "Go!" The squelching sirens and banging drum patterns build this track into a fresh start for a CD. One of the hottest production teams on the breakbeat scene is Deekline and Wizard. Their track "Body Popper" helps to show why they are so in demand at the moment. The man with the master plan Krafty Kuts steps in to twist some knobs and tweak some sounds on his remix. The track is banging with robotic vocals and some doses of scratching throughout. Up next is the hit track "Backdraft" by Labrat. This track has been hammered by everyone from the Plump DJs to DJ Mondo. The freestyle vocals are reminiscent of a Miami bass track but it is infused with guitar riffs and a fierce build-up. Krafty Kuts jumps back into the picture with his remix of the Freestylers track "Punks." This is a truly beautiful marriage between old school and nu school.
It has rhythms that belong in the hottest new release but it still keeps some of the original flavor that has made the Freestylers so popular over the years. "Darkstar" is the next track in the mix and is also done up by a couple of Florida natives. Jackyl & Hyde have been in the business since there was a business to be in and have produced quality tracks that stay in the front of all major breaks players' boxes. This track has the classic raw and crunchy bassline and some filtered synth sounds that fall right into place in this mix.

Running up on track number seven we encounter the title track by none other than The Bass Queen herself. "Mixtress" has some light flowing synth sounds that are built up into an explosive breakdown with the deep dark male vocals pronouncing who she is, Mixtress. In keeping with the Florida side of the mix, Malicious Mike steps in with his track "Here We Go."

The funk hits the fan on this one with pounding bass and squeaky, sweeping synth lines. This track builds and builds until it almost throws the speakers from the cabinets. It is a perfect setup for the next track in the mix. The superstar Plump DJs show up next with there massive hit "Creepshow." This is a track that has literally been hammered from everyone with a set of turntables. The horns and funky bassline give way to the eerie "Creepshow" vocals; a perfect track for the Halloween season. Another breakbeat superproducer, Factor E trams up with label mate Agent K to produce the track "Start the Panic." A slight wah-wah sound on the guitar is meshed together with some soft and sweet vocals that begin to wind down the mix.

The finale of the mix is the Mendoza track "Aggression." The bass is not too pounding but not too soft either. The breakdown has some string elements and what sounds like a filtered clavinet. What a beautiful way to take out this exquisite mix. Her flawless mixing skills and ingenious track selection have made her one of the most sought after performers in the country. Baby Anne can mix, produce and is stunningly beautiful, what more could you ask from a Mixtress???
