Coasting on the tide that is progressive house, Bad Boy Bill
retains his relevancy with the catchy and heartfelt summer tune
"Falling Anthem." The guy has found a wonderful vocalist in Alyssa
Palmer, as well, whose emotive pipes really make the song.
Progressive house is pretty similar across the board, where the beats
remain relatively consistent with the melody being the biggest mover
within the track. And right now, progressive house is expressed
mainly through synth work, a la Deadmau5, Adam K & Soha, and now, Bad
Boy Bill. What separates one progressive house track from another is
the vocalist, and Alyssa Palmer's vulnerable straining and pleading
sets this track on fire.
"Falling Anthem" Remixes
The mixes run the gamut. Herve's "We Are A Beautiful Disaster" mix is somewhat fun, maintaining the chord progression through the beginning before dropping into heavy, oversaturated synths. I'm not a fan of how much he chopped up the vocals, though. Chase's Neily Dan mix is a poppy, breakbeat mix that drags the track out of progressive house territory almost into R&B (including a really awkward rap), but is only suitable for iPod use at 3:29 (unless you've got one of those quirky indie dance parties and happen to find this track appealing for such a purpose). Harry Choo Choo Romero (or HCCR, if that helps you remember his mix for Lady Gaga's "Just Dance") takes the track in a heavy-handed yet minimalist electro direction, attempting to make it more peaktime friendly. Sometimes less isn't more and I believe this mix proves that. Sylvane's remix is the only remix that I feel actually builds on the track rather than breaking it down. His mainstream electrohouse mix complements Palmer's vocals nicely while maintaining some of the drama from the original.Look out, because the original is on fire! I can see some
of the mixes making appearances but my solid favorite is Bad Boy
Bill's charming original. Keep an eye out for his debut The Album
coming out this summer!
