Known more for their shiny bald blue heads than for being staples of the dance floor, Blue Man Group have been intriguing concertgoers all over the world for many years now with their unique musical stylings. They are dipping their collective toes back in the waters of the club scene with remixes of their song "Canta Conmigo." The group actually had a hit on the charts a couple of years back with a stellar remake of the disco classic "I Feel Love."
This time around, the remixes are taking on a Latin/tribal flavor thanks in part to Funky Junction. Their Spanish Vocal Mix is sexy and full of hot Latin guitars and blaring horns. To steal a line from Gloria Estefan, the rhythm is gonna get you for sure with this mix. There is no pounding bass or booming drums here. There are occasional twinges of club beats here, but nothing that overshadows the Latin flavor. It's just a purely intoxicating Latin house jam. It reminds me a lot of the classic house jam from Negrocan entitled "Cada Vez" that was so big eight or nine years ago. Nickodemus also delivers a mix that stays away from loud booming noises and instead goes for a deep house groove. The Afrohouse Mix keeps the horns and adds some extra bass and drums to give the track a more soulful vibe. It's only five minutes long, but it's just as effective for getting you to move as the Spanish Vocal Mix.
For those in need of something a little more club oriented, go directly to the Onionz Swirv Mix. A splash of electro along with the addition of some synth lines turns this into the Saturday night stomper you were looking for. Thankfully, the horns are still here to keep a little of the previous mixes alive.
Blue Man Group may not be known for throwing down a Latin jam, but these remixes show that even painted blue guys can be mucho caliente. This is a refreshing change of pace from the usual big room tracks that we are so used to playing. Take a chance on this and watch the reactions you may be pleasantly surprised.
