The return of Electropop innovator Bobby Orlando continues with the
release of the second single from his "Outside The Inside" CD, and
"Excited" looks set to follow lead single "Sorrow" straight up the
Billboard dance charts. The Classic O mix is a fabulous retro treat,
reminiscent of the finest Bobby O productions from his early 80s
heyday with vocodered hooks and a buzzing, bustling background of
synthesizers providing the groundwork for Bobby O's seductively
breathy delivery.
In contrast, the Radikal Mix strips things down a bit to more of a
minimal approach with insistent synth flourishes over a throbbing
electronic arrangement. Giuseppe D's Tribal mixes will appeal to those
who still yearn for hard and rough Circuit-style mixes with its
massive drum builds and aggressive synth chords that come crashing
down around the vocal track while Giuseppe's Electro Mix stays truer
to the original O mixes while adding a few slight Disco flourishes.
With lyrics like "Rock hard when I look at you, stimulated baby
through and through, my love is stiff and my passion's true" there's
no mistaking what the song's about but the delivery is lighthearted
enough that the track never seems sleazy but playfully sexy instead.
Given the heavy debt the current Electro movement owes to Orlando's seminal body of work, it's really quite wonderful to see this trendsetter return with such solid material at a time when the dance market is ready to warmly embrace it.
