Cross Town Rebels honcho Damian Lazarus mixes up an irreverent selection of late-night tech-house fare. The mix opens vacantly before delving into an ocean of synthesized and electro-inspired house tunes which swell briefly into funkiness before crashing, full force, into electronic mayhem. The spooky Villalobos mix of Thomas Dolby's "One of Our Submarines" (reminiscent of some of David Bowie's more esoteric moments), the extended disco cut of the Freaks' "Tweakers," and the pounding Pearson mix of Alter Ego's "Beat the Bush" really illustrate the range of the mix, which closes as eerily as it begins with a beautiful and haunting rock-tinged Superpitcher mix that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. The mixing is solid; the track selection is impeccably deviant. This mix CD has been in regular rotation in my player for weeks.
