Chris "The Greek" Panaghi has been mixing and producing for years now. He has reworked songs by artists like Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan and Jessica Simpson. Most recently, he has been showing up on the dance charts with his own productions. His latest is "Pump" and it is a very basic and very fun track made to get your motor running. Four extended mixes are offered up here, and all of them will be perfect for getting your floor moving.
The Club Mix is uncomplicated and bouncy. A pulsing bassline carries this song along with stabs of guitars and violin riffs. There are really no vocals, just a diva asking if we want to pump. A great easy mix to play during peak hours. Next is the Stomping Club Mix. This mix is much more subtle despite its title. The focus here is on the synth instead of the bass. In fact, this mix feels more like a tapping club mix as opposed to a stomping one. There are no big build-ups, no drums, or anything else you could characterize as stomping. I would characterize it as being very minimal. It's not a bad mix, maybe just mislabeled. After this, there is the Electrik Pulse Club Mix. Just as the title suggests, this mix is all about the electronic side of things. With lots of synthesizers and a very 80s disco feel, this mix will make you feel like you stepped into Danceteria. Simple, basic and very fun.
Finally, there is the Keven Maroda Club Mix. A relatively new face on the remix scene, this New Jersey native turns this song into a progressive house jam. Lots of added effects make this mix the most complex, but the results are not muddled or cluttered. Drums and synths toughen up the groove and before you know it, the song is done. None of the mixes here are longer than 6:11, amazing in an era where a mix can go on and on and on. The brevity is a refreshing change of pace and does nothing to hinder the song's impact on the clubgoer.
"Pump" is a simple club track with only one motive: to get you out on the dance floor. Chris "The Greek" Panaghi proves that sometimes less is more and than short but sweet is the way to go. This track will be sitting pretty on many DJs top ten lists very soon.
