Jason Nevins was a good choice to remix The Caesars' Euro-Garage
Retro-Rock Sound simply because Nevins has for a long time used
elements of rock in his dance mixes- remember his remix of Run DMC's
"It's Like That?" The Nevins extended mix and remix edit stay closest
to the original, using the catchy organ riff while he bumps a
funk/rock groove. In the Rock Da Club mix he drops the recognizable
organ riff and substitutes a distorted rock/surf guitar. Also there's
a little more vocal manipulation, a little more lead synth work and
some dramatic "clubby" drops.
The Jerk It Harder mix brings in all new elements- synth sweeps, more
guitar work, more blips and bleeps. The vocals are used here, but
sparingly, giving the music more space to groove. A good dramatic
effect, Nevins drops the beat when the vocals hit, washing them in
ambience and kicking back in the groove at the right moment. After the
vocals have gone through their verses, this mix pretty much planes out
into chopped vocal effects and dub. A good set of remixes. Possibly
the track is suffering from oversaturation due to the ubiquitous Apple
iPod commercial. Oversaturated or not, "Jerk It Out" is still a fun,
infectious track and these remixes pump up the Swedish group's hit
quite nicely.
