From a guest role in the movie Human Traffic to his lengthy DJ career starting in the 80s with the Acid House movement, to his evolving sound spanning House, Trance, and Techno, Carl Cox is known the world around, noted to be one of the most popular DJs in the world with his signature 3 turntable sets. Carl brings us his latest mix CD titled Second Sign, originally released in May of 2005 on 23rd Century Records. The mix was released by New York-based Koch Records on April 4th stateside. Cox has teamed up with the likes of Fatboy Slim a.k.a. Norman Cook, Josh Wink, Christian Smith, and others to bring you an eclectic blend of electronic music. 'That's The Bass' featuring Norman Cook is first up with Cox's Rock Drums mix. The track is steepened with Fatboy Slim's style, big room bassline and vocals. The transition into 'Space Calling' is very fitting with a live rock drum sound. 'Give Me Your Love' features vocals by Hannah Robinson singing over a soothing House groove. Phats and Small are on duty with a tribal mix of 'If I Fall (Would You Let Me?)' featuring the sultry vocals of Onallee.

'Dirty Bass' with Christian Smith is just that- dirty, nasty, gritty. The sounds of many different basslines throughout the tune make for a very unique sound. Slovenian native Valentino Kanzyani gives an ear-resistable mix of 'Give Me Your Love' with vocals again by Hannah Robinson. This track has the potential to be a Techno hit with a very dancefloor-friendly sound and filtered vocals. The album ends with a Drum & Bass version of 'If I fall (Would You Let Me?),' a very Latin Drum & Bass sound reminiscent of the South American style. A few of the transitions in the mix are somewhat iffy in my opinion. The mix is very easy to listen to, and not overwhelming at all. Fans of Carl Cox old and new will be taken on a journey of House, Techno, and Drum & Bass. A must have for avid fans of electronic music.
