When I first heard the name Chab, I thought that it was the name given to the red-bellied woodpecker indigenous to parts of North America. I quickly learned that that's one of Francois Chabloz's aliases, along with Moogwai and Star, under the moniker in which he produced one of my favorite little ditties called "Rock Rose." Chab's also well known for his unbelievable kickarse single "Closer To Me," which has been mixed and remixed by some of dance music's prominent fixtures—John Digweed & Nick Muir, Hernan Cattaneo, and Satoshi Tomiie's excellent 10+ minute opus.
Satoshi and Chab have done it again as "Lover" is an impressive follow-up that's slow to burn and burns real good once you've lit the fuse, namely by hitting the play button. The 3D Remix provides Chab's dark and sinister sounding vocals, while the Dub Remix obviously does not, but sadly there are (for now) only two (Satoshi) mixes. Granted, some smaller than thou labels prefer to release small, then wait for the tracks to blow up big in clubs and other venues and that's perfectly cool, but when a track already has the momentum to allow you to truly feel its depth and breadth within the first minute, one can smell more mixes on the horizon or perhaps more mixes are just waiting to be released to the masses. In due time, grasshoppers.
Either way, I really liked this track and I think that you will appreciate it too. Just don't be alarmed if your head begins bobbing like that of a woodpecker's, albeit at a much slower rate of speed.
