The Chemical Brothers, a staple of EDM, have once again produced a fantastic new single release with the aid of Tim Burgess. 'The Boxer' is hot. With its relentless and in your face sound, it really displays how capable the Chemical Brothers remain as producers. 'The Boxer' is a choppy breakbeat song with nasty basslines, decent vocals, and heavy effects. The DFA mix is a march-like house mix that makes me think of platform shoes and disco floors. It starts out pretty funky, and keeps that feel without much progression throughout.
Also included on the EP are a few mixes of other tracks also found on 'Push the Button,' the new Chemical Brothers album. These include 'Giant,' 'Spring,' two 'Believe' remixes, and a 'Galvanize' remix. The original 'The Boxer' mix seems destined to become an instant dancefloor hit. However, while the star of this release is top notch, I really wasn't feeling much else on this release. Not that they won't find their place in DJs' crates, but compared to rockstar that is 'The Boxer' they just don't quite deliver on the same level.
