Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man

RCA

Christina's back in a big way with this single. Not only is the original version white hot, the remixes are slammin' as well. Junior Vasquez, Shape: UK, Ospina & Sullivan, Scotty K, Jake Ridley, and Ultimix all deliver great mixes. Vasquez puts in the mix with the biggest fun factor, utilizing the music in the original and adding in cheeky samples of Deee-Lite. Shape: UK cleans things up a bit and puts a sheen of synths and piano work into the classy treatment. Also, they add in a musical reference to Ce Ce Peniston's "Finally" which is nice to hear. Their Nocturnal remix is more on the progressive side of things with a bouncy electro bassline and overall less classic, more modern approach. Ospina & Sullivan give their remix a nice and funky house feel which sounds a little jazzy and in the vein of Maurice Joshua. The Scotty K Bootleg Club mix is without doubt the most tribal and circuit-sounding mix of the bunch. All the synths, tribal beats, and crescendos are there, making this a sweet, uplifting big room remix.

Jake Ridley's mix goes in a funky electro direction with full vocals layered in with a tight bassline and lots of bubbling percussion. The Ultimix edit naturally focuses on the original song and adds little DJ effects throughout, giving us a tasty extended original version. The review wouldn't be complete without giving mention to DJ Premier. Originally one half of Gang Starr, he's become known as one of the leaders of the underground hip-hop scene. He steers clear of the hip-hop cookie cutter mode, instead focusing on obscure jazz samples to create his music. For Christina, he utilizes "Happy Skippy Moon Strut" by The Moon People and "The Cissy's Thang" by the Soul Seven. Very reminiscent of The Meters classic sound. Aguilera could've tapped any number of trendy hip-hop remixers for this song, and she very wisely chose a true original talent to man the dials, buttons, and faders. The result is a tasty big beat-influenced original that stands apart from common radio fare. To finish it off, all the remixers put in great work to keep the dancefloors fun and pumpin'. The remixes are all good! This song is just pure fun and all the mixes "get it". Ain't no bad mixes here!
