This two-disc compilation is part of a series that highlights some of the best "underground" record labels out there. This particular series focuses on King Street and Gossip Records.
Disc one features King Street Sounds and is mixed by Jason Hayer. This disc has 11 tracks on it, with plenty of lounge and soulful house. One of my favorite tracks is "What it Feels Like" by Joi Cardwell, remixed by Quentin Harris. I really love Joi's voice; she's always had a soothing style with her vocals. Another great track is "Misery" by Kimara Lovelace. It's been out for awhile, but it's still a great song. Others featured on this disc include Dennis Ferrer, DJ Romain, Blaze, and the Ananda Project
Disc two features Gossip Records and is mixed by Native New Yorkers. This disc has 12 tracks on it and has a blend of soulful house and more uptempo house tracks. One of my favorites on this disc is "8th Wonder" by Hott 22, there are a few tracks by them on this disc as well as some of their mixes for other artists. I also like "Musica" by S.O.M. feat Barbara Mendez. It has an up-tempo beat with a little bit of Spanish lyrics. Another track that I thought was interesting was "Go Inside" by Delicado feat Claudia Franco. It has a few simple vocals on it, both male and female, but I think it's the beat that I like the most -- it's got a repetitive rhythm that is hot. Others featured on this disc include Mateo & Matos, Carolyn Harding, Rocker's Revenge, and Roland Clark.
Overall there are a handful of great tracks on this compilation, both older and newer, but I think it's more for the die hard "underground" house music fan.
