Every holiday season brings a new batch of pop stars taking on the catalog of Christmas classics. But have you ever wondered what europop instrumental versions of holiday classics would sound like? Neither did I, and as such, Club Christmas came as a welcome surprise.

The producers of D1 Music, Peter McLean and Keith Kemper, serve upbeat takes on Christmas classics with mixed results. "Do You Hear What I Hear" is definitely a highlight with a galloping bass line, churchy organs, and a crescendo of bombastic drums. The electro noises of "Deck the Halls" are quite fresh, while their take on "Little Drummer Boy" is the best in recent memory since RuPaul. However, a few of the tracks sound like b-sides to a dated muzak compilation - especially "Silent Night" and "Carol of the Bells."

Holiday music is highly subjective and you should listen to the tracks for yourself. You can sample the tracks through Emusic or Rhapsody and choose to download your favorites or purchase the whole CD.
