Must have singles don't come along quite as often as they should. Sure, they are more common than must have albums, but they are nevertheless hard to come by. The reasons for this are as varied as the reviews on this web site. After all, one person's must have is another person's wouldn't ever listen to again. Then there is the inevitable fact that the listener probably will not like every remix on the single. What makes the difference for most people is staying power. That is to say how long not only the single stays with you, but how much you play it.
Ever since I got a copy of Conjure One's "extraordinary way" CD5, it has been in what ever CD player I have been near - playing. It is just that good. Sure I have probably done the equivalent to top 40 overkill to it, but there it is - still playing (mixed in with other current samples of music). In fact, I am listening to it as I write this review.
Why? Instead of just having that special beat or mix, the song is truly multi-layered. When you get a copy of this single, and you should, listen not only to the beats and synthesizers, but the lyrics. How well they are juxtaposed - contrasting with the upbeat tempo of the music. The best remixes are those done by Antillas. I figure (or at least hope) that it is only a matter of time that at least the Antillas remix edit starts getting some airplay on some of the mainstream top 40 radio stations because it is that good.
As for the Original Version, it too is very good. It is simply chilled out, where as the Antillas Remix are definitely uptempo dance music. The Low End Specialists Remix is, as the name implies, bassy. Sure it is slower, but your head will still be moving in sync with the beat. So go get a copy of this single and be amazed by its staying power.
