A few out of place
Four tracks are missing from my overview, and I'll cover them simply. Rich Morel, while oozing buckets of talent, provided the most lackluster tracks on the album. "Same Ol' Story," while being a club stomper, drags on about 4 minutes too long, at 5:55. "Raging Storm" and "Set Your Heart" are both similarly redundant both musically and vocally. Lauper has a tendency to, as I said earlier, drag on. More so in these songs than any other. And "Lyfe" is just odd. A more hip-hop/r&b number that feels completely out of place on the album. You weigh this paragraph against the last paragraph and see what draws you more. What Do I Think?
I was extremely underwhelmed at first listen, but then I realized the beauty of Bring Ya to the Brink: it isn't meant to be listened to all at once. Each track, owing to almost every one being produced dramatically different from the last, is its own reward. Fall in love with the individual songs, don't listen to the whole album. What I'm trying to say is buy this. Do yourself a favor, support Cyndi Lauper, support the moves she's made, and support dance music as a whole. This is a great venture from a timeless artist.Released May 27, 2008 on Epic Records.
