Following in the footsteps of other great breaks DJs such as Koma and Bones, Hybrid, Überzone, and Hyper that have taken a turn producing a mix CD for the Y4K series, Icey brings his Orlando magic to the table(s) and delivers a solid continuous mix of fourteen tracks heavy on the beats. The album features "big tunes" from eleven different artists, seven of which are in turn remixed by someone else, plus three original songs from Icey himself: "Come Closer," "San Pedro," and the femme fatale that closes the disc, "Nikita." (He also reworks a remix of an AB/DC song, leading to the torturously long title "Feelin' Good (Boy 8-bits Grindhouse mix) [DJ Icey re-edit]".) Icey's blue-collar approach to touring is in full evidence here, as all these tracks are dance-floor tested and ready for breaks lovers everywhere to lock and load, preferably with the volume (and naturally, the bass) cranked. Highlights include the inspired Bass Kleph and Nick Thayer treatment of the Draumattic Twins' "Feelin' Kinda Strange," the toasting over the top of thick basslines on General MIDI's "Never Gonna Stop The Show," and the brilliant mood-setting Spanish guitar that opens the Vlad & Ardission remix of Smithmonger & Kobe's "Grizzle."

More of an evolutionary release than anything revolutionary, Icey shows us with this fine addition to the Y4K legacy why he's still around after pioneering his own distinctive sound over a decade ago.
