"Dance Mix NYC Volume 4," mixed by The Riddler, runs the gamut of mainstream dance music, giving us a taste of trance, house, tribal, and electro.
By kicking off with the Al B. Rich Club Mix of the R&B hit "No Letting Go" by Wayne Wonder, the Riddler sets the stage for this radio-friendly dance compilation. The disco-house "How Did You Know" by Kurtis Matronik is a funky vocal track that takes you right on the dancefloor. The tribal chant of "E Samba" and the percussive beats of the Lee & Cabrera Mix of "My Time" by Dutch is a one-two punch. Electro figures prominently into the next part of the mix with the Riddler featuring two Benny Benassi productions/remixes, "Natural Woman" and "Satisfaction."
Moving away from the funkier side of dance music, the Riddler kicks things into peak hour gear by including Amuka's "Appreciate Me." This dancefloor anthem will have you in a frenzy, as will the tribal drums of "Alright" by Murk. The anthems keep on coming with Tina Ann's "Too Late" and the high-energy Valentin Mix for "Something Happpened on the Way to Heaven" by Deborah Cox. After the anthems, we are treated to the final section of Riddler's dance mix that is packed with some melodic trance tunes. Motorcycle's "As the Rush Comes" is a beautiful masterpiece full of lush strings and gorgeous vocals. On the other hand, Yomanda's "You're Free" is nothing more than a boring, dubby rehash of the Ultra Nate's "Free." The disc finishes with Al B. Rich's trance-laden remix of Kristine W's "The Wonder of It All."
This compilation is a good companion for the casual dance music listener, but if your taste veers away from the mainstream, steer clear of this mix.
