Here’s a case of an original song and artist being so damn good that the remixers have great material for starters and extra pressure to live up to the original. Debby Holiday is an underground sensation, known as a compelling soul singer and dynamite live performer. She’s beautiful, sings like an angel and has deep talent. A musical artist this good deserves recognition now more than ever, and you owe it to yourself to check her out, and support this woman’s delightful passion.
“Dive” is Debby’s new single, and it’s released as a CD-Maxi (Nebula Records) with remixes from Chris Cox, Scotty K and Solar City... and yes, the original is there too. Scotty K brings in some warm acoustic guitars, full vocals and a laid-back house affair. Solar City hits harder, bringing a darker, “progressive” feel, particularly in their “naked dub," striking cat-like balance between uplifting and sinister. None of the remixes are bad, but at the end of the day, it’s Chris Cox who slams this one home. It’s all there- the hard and groovy tribal beat, a sweepingly huge synth hook, dramatic buildups and the perfect laying in of Debby’s voice. It all spells summertime Anthem. So, here we have a 5 star remix from Cox and a 5 star performance from Debby Holiday; seems like the stars aligned on this one to keep the dance floors aflame.
