This pleasant enough fusion project that combines time-honored mid-tempo Brazilian Bossa tunes with a modern-day Electronica flair, standouts on "Electro Bossa" are the songs featuring the sleek and sexy vocals of Graça Cunha who adds her inestimable charm to the leisurely lounging "Sem Voc," the slowly clattering "Terra & Ceu," and the bouncy, sunshine-filled "Arrepio & Avia." Cunha's smoothly irresistible vocals add the level of panache needed to give spark to the dreamily subdued nature of the tracks.
Without her, the rest of this double CD-set unfortunately suffers from a certain level of homogeneity between the songs as the Hammond organs and clavinets pound and the flutes flutter from track to track. Happily though, album producer Edson X does break things up at times by adding a light breakbeat ambience to songs like "Acabou A Tristeza" or "Amar Nao Doi" or a trippily drugged-out 70s Latin fusion vibe reminiscent of Santana to "Balanco Do Trem" and "1977." So while "Electro Bossa" does come across at times as electronic musical wallpaper, it's attractive wallpaper nonetheless.
