As long as Enrique Iglesias has been making English-language songs, he has been getting remixed by some of the best DJs around. Thunderpuss, David Morales, Hex Hector, & Dave Aude have all done stellar mixes for songs like "Hero," "Not In Love," "Sad Eyes," & "Rhythm Divine." After an chart absence of a couple of years, he is back with a new CD (Insomniac), and the first single "Do You Know" has been given the dance treatment by the duo of Ralphi Rosario & Craig J and also by DJ Dan. While one mix is really great, the other is just mediocre.
Ralphi Rosario & Craig J deliver the best of the two mixes with their Vocal Mix. These two have collaborated a few mixes lately with fantastic results. All the ingredients are here for a peak-hour anthem. Lots of synthesizers and a pulsing rhythm sit alongside Enrique's vocals and a touch of Latin infused flavor in perfect harmony. The breakdown becomes just the synth effects and Enrique whispering "Do you know?' in a seductive tone and then rebuilds back into the chorus. The mix isn't too heavy and keeps all of the vocals intact, something I think is important when doing a mix. The Thick N' Chunky Dub and radio edit are also included in this package. The other mix here is by DJ Dan. His remix is much rougher and more electro-sounding. There are more blips and beeps that take away from the original feel of the song, but he does manage to include the bouncing noise of the ping-pong ball (hence the subtitle of the song).
The team of Rosario hits a home run & Craig J on the first single from Enrique Iglesias' new CD and DJ Dan tends to strike out with his versions. Dan does get credit for including the ping pong ball, but that's not enough for me to save the entire mix. It's great to hear Enrique in the clubs again and I'm sure we'll get even more great mixes as the singles continue to flow from this new album.
