After a brief detour into acoustic pop last year with their CD "On The Road To Nashville," Erasure have returned to form with the first single from their upcoming album "Light At The End Of The World." Andy Bell and Vince Clarke have been making happy and uplifting dance tracks for over 20 years now and this new track is no exception to that hitmaking strategy. "I Could Fall In Love With You" features fun remixes by Jeremy Wheatley & Lee Monteverde and is a perfect piece of pop for your dance floor.
Jeremy Wheatley takes us back in time with his Extended 12" Mix. It has a very 80s feel to it, a perfect match for a band who started off in that decade. This version never amps up to a true dance beat. It tends to stay put at a midtempo pace, but it's a great choice to get the night or afternoon started. Lots of synthesizers surround Andy's distinctive vocals and the beat keeps steady the entire length of the song. A radio edit of this mix is also provided. If you need something a bit more upbeat, then the Monteverde Vocal will be just what you're looking for. This mix is also synth-heavy, but the addition of drums and a meaty bass line make this the version DJs will be reaching for during peak hours. The beat disappears after the first verse, dropping off into a filtered vocal of the chorus and then rebuilds back up into the song. The mix clocks in at just under six and a half minutes, a perfect time for a song of this nature. Monteverde also gives us a Dub that sounds basically like the extended vocal, just a bit shorter and the synth line is a little tougher. It even has all the vocals, so calling it a dub seems to be mislabeled. The album version is also included here along with a b-side, "I Like It," a funky chugging number not included on the upcoming CD.
Erasure proves once again why they are one of the premier bands of our generation. They continue to whip out great songs that are fun and catchy and make us wanna dance every time we hear them. This debut single from their new CD, coming out sometime in early May, is a slice of pop perfection and will be heard in clubs for months to come. With Gay Pride season about to kick off in just a few more weeks, expect to hear this everywhere!
