Fama featuring Alan T - Here In Spirit

Kult Records

Nothing gets the queens in a flutter like hearing a tribal beat with a fierce spoken word dialogue over it talking to them as they dance. Alan T. has been the voice of many of these tracks over the years. "The Door" (with classic mixes by Danny Tenaglia) and "Jonesing" are just two of the songs that have worked the speakers over the years. Now Alan T. has returned with Fama for the new song "Here In Spirit." The mixes offered here are hot, dark, and tribal, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Only one mix misses the mark because it veers from the chosen path.

Fama's Original Mixshow gives us the perfect late night combination of intense drums and Alan's over the top vocal delivery. The hard synths stabs are a great addition to the tech-house feel of this song. The Tribalishious Oxygen Dub keeps the vocals in the background, choosing instead to focus on the pounding drums and the dark vibe of the song. This mix feels repetitive to me simply because it's the vocals that make this track work. Without them, it becomes just a typical tribal instrumental. Still, as a dub, this mix is still pretty decent. The Dilamani & Rassek Infection Vocal Mixshow is the least tribal of these remixes. In fact, the drums seem to have been stripped away for a more house feel. The synthesizers and percussion take over here and the track loses the hard underground sound that this song was made for. Alan's vocals were made to be put over a tribal rhythm and without it, he sounds campy and out of place. This is the mix that I was most disappointed with.

Alan T. returns in fine form with his collaboration with Fama entitled "Here In Spirit." The dark tribal sound doesn't get a lot of attention like it used to, but this track reminds us of why we shouldn't turn a deaf ear to it. Happy upbeat circuit music is all fine and good, but sometimes you need something dirty and sexy to really let loose. With one exception, these mixes will get you feeling that way. So get ready to get dark and dirty and feel no guilt about it!

Fama's Original mix--4 stars
Tribalishious mix--3 stars
Dilmani & Rassek mix--2 stars
