When I used to DJ a lot of parties, at some point during the night either I or my assistant would say into the mic (and I actually heard it on this album), All the UGLY people in da house make some Noiiise! At which time the room would go mostly silent except for the music and the cadence of the bodies to the beat. Well, that is what I have been saying to my CD player as I have been auditioning this CD for this review. Im sure this music has its place its just that maybe Im finally too old to hang-out there. Oh, and Im talking about the group Fannypack, and their latest album, Ghetto Bootleg which is actually a re-issue of previously unreleased material.
What we have here is numerous annoying remixes until the final track, lucky thirteen Friscia & Lamboy remixed version, when they redo Lidell Townsells party classic Nu Nu and prove that they really can SING melodically in a Dance/House music vein. Otherwise the effort lives down to the ghetto title. Hey, maybe Im not the best person to review this; I thought the booty-butt epidemic that started for me with Destinys Child about five years ago had run its course.
The bootleg starts-off with an almost college half time marching band chant, Boy you think you hit it, oh no you didnt! Cute; and Im sarcastically sayin oh no THEY didn to myself. What did my ever so confident-of me-to pull-it-off Editor get me into?
So I suck it up and survive several more listenings to these frantic beats and shouts in order to form as objective opinion as possible. Hey, dont get me wrong, this is a robust effort throughout, and if you are into (getting a headache) this booty music as they call it, then you surely will want to purchase this for your collection. But if you want to chill at home for an enchanted evening with thoughtful background music, this isnt it. Just because this isnt my cup of tea doesnt mean there wont be fanny fans out there, so in light of that Ill bust a move with two-and-a-half stars.
