Over the past ten years, Gaelle Adisson has secured a firm place in the fertile Atlanta music scene. With her debut full-length album "Transient," she showcases her rich talent and creativity, presenting an album of soul music with a strong sense of individuality and self-assurance. There's no question about Gaelle's talent as a singer, songwriter, and producer. With her honest, sensual and haunting style, Gaelle joins the space occupied by young female singers like Kelis and Res. She is unquestionably a soul songtress, but she's got that kind of style that moves her out of the Jill Scott/Angie Stone realm and into her own personal domain.
"Transient" is one of those CDs that oozes vibe. From the first track, "Falling," with warm guitar chords working over a polyrhythm, you know you're in for something very good and very different. If you don't know, then by the second tune, "Parkway," a surprising tale about a jealous girlfriend gone mad set to a slow R&B track touched with crunkitude, you are certain, Gaelle's definitely got some unique and special going on. Like many artists these days, Gaelle combines elements of various styles of music to make her particular sound. In doing so, she crafts a sound that seems at times to look from the inside out. Her breathy arresting voice is a perfect compliment for the blue-tinted tracks like "Separate Rooms" and "Moonsglow."
Gaelle's long-awaited debut is definitely a must-have for the fall/winter season. Don't miss remixes on "Give It Back," featuring a treatment from Jay Denes at Naked Music. Speaking of which, kudos to Naked for having the good sense to release this superb CD.
