At the turn of the millennium, Alison Goldfrapp, who looks a little like Cyndi Lauper, and her collaborator Will Gregory, have been slowly seducing clubland audiences (check out Ooh La La, Number 1, and Strict Machine) and continue to spawn hits off of the English duo's 3rd album, "Supernature."
On the very hypnotic maxi-single "Fly Me Away," Goldfrapp is without a doubt heavy on the electronica as well as souping up her vocals, which is, of course, the foundation of Goldfrapp.
Track 1: The Single Version is a cool, laid-back introductory edit, if you will, that opens the door just a smidgen for you to catch a flirtatious whiff of Goldfrapp's seductive vocals.
Track 2: Carl Craig's C2 Remix 1 is a bass-inducing, beat-rousing version that took to me like a baby to its bottle.
Track 3: Carl Craig's C2 Remix 2 is the instrumental of Remix 1 and as much of a gem as is Goldfrapp's vocal talent. You can also fully appreciate Will Gregory's underlying and masterful synths.
Track 4: Carl Craig's C2 Remix 4 is one helluva House-centric diamond in the rough that is rife with a penetrating bass line and accompanying layering of synths that doesn't yield to Goldfrapp's emotive vocals and brings the whole package together to form a satisfying and juicy vibe.
Tracks 5 & 6, as re-envisioned by Filippo Moscatello's Naughty Remix and Instrumental, respectively, as well as tracks 7 & 8, remixed by Ladytron, made me feel that the mood lost its zest and zing for the fun and bouncy aspects that I felt from tracks 1 through 4, but don't let that stop you from checking this single out. Okay, so I'm split between digging the first four tracks but not so much the last four. Thankfully most online eTailers allow a user to listen to full-length cuts.
I suppose that there's a "C2 Remix 3" out there somewhere, perhaps on some Import, but it wasn't on here.
