Helena Paparizou - My Number One

After winning the 2005 Eurovision competition for her native Greece with "My Number One," Paparizou's storming Euro anthem is brought to American shores with a host of new mixes that unfortunately strip away much of the song's panache in favor of standard club filler. The Josh Harris Vocal Club Mix, for example, loses the dizzyingly festive vibe of the original and replaces it with nothing more than a fairly pedestrian House mix, while Norty Cotto's My Clubber Lover Mix adds little other than a pumping Tribal beat underneath Paparizou's vocal. More satisfying are the Mike Cruz Vox Mix that gives the song a darkly energetic vibe, and, best of the bunch, Georgie's #1 Anthem Mix, a delightful version which places the song over a bubbly arrangement rife with filtered Disco riffs. And while it would have been nice to see some remixes that utilized more of the original version's arrangement, Paparizou's flirtatious vocal charm and the song's catchy refrains are still able to shine through.
