His & Hers Volume 1

Thrive

If you are a fan of the kind of music that was featured on the soundtrack to “Garden State”, then I have just the CD for you. Compiled by Amanda Scheer-Demme, the lady responsible for the songs you heard in that movie, “His & Hers” is a fantastic CD filled with an eclectic array of artists that you may or may not be familiar with. Of course, discovering someone new is part of the fun of this new release available on the Thrive label. It’s not a “dance” CD by any means, though a few of the artists do fall into that category. It IS a CD that is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon or a small get together on a Friday night.

Seventeen songs grace this collection and many of these artists you many not be familiar with. For you dance enthusiasts, Daft Punk & Goldfrapp have tracks here along with a fabulous remix of “Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair” by Nina Simone done by Jaffa. This particular track was also available on “Verve Remixed” a few years ago. The indie scene is well represented by the Sounds, Shout Out Louds and the Dandy Warhols. The Postal Service, who have been featured everywhere with tracks from their CD “Give Up”, give us a very creative rework of the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds”. It’s probably one of the most upbeat songs on here. If you are looking for a big name artist, Oasis’ “Stop Crying Your Heart Out” is here and so is “Wonderwall”, though it’s the cool cover version by Ryan Adams. Some new bands make an appearance here as well. Groups like the Soft Lightes, Heartless Bastards and the Tigers all donate tracks to this compilation. None of them are makings big waves, but being on this CD will surely give them a boost. Another great track featured on here is “Tired Of Being Sorry” by Ringside. The remixes of this track were a big hit last year and the duo is comprised of Scott Thomas and Balthazar Getty. If that last name looks familiar, that is because he is one of the stars of the ABC series “Brothers & Sisters” along with many movies. The Stereophonics, Ian Brown, Embrace and a classic track by Luna round out this collection.

If you are looking for a CD to help you wind down after a long night of clubbing or a long day at work or even just something cool to listen to, “His & Hers” is a perfect choice. The folks at Thrive prove once again why they are one of the up and coming dance labels out there. All of the tracks featured are fun and unique and will whet your appetite for the second volume of this new series.
