The nerdy hipster cover art and packaging from Neckbone Graphics
(www.neckbone.net) (please let that be a prom picture of Horse Noodles
alter ego Horace Noonkowics on the inside and back) sets the tone for the
sly, trippy and off-center downtempo beats found within. Hoofbeats, that
is, as the disc opens with the self-referential A Certain Mister Horse
Noodles and Special Agent Noodles Reporting for Duty. One of the best
cuts on the album (also featuring on the LunaticWorks sampler Vol 3:
Loaded Music For Loaded Minds also reviewed here) is up next, the lushly
fun Rudys Got The Number. Thats the first of three tracks that dont
explicity mention a horse, until were treated to the mad howlings on The
Day The Horse Stood Still. Twisted jazzy numbers like Wandas Beauty
Secrets follow and then still more equine themes pop up, Trick Or
Treating With Horse Noodles a jungly number with yeehaw accents and
Some Lone Ranger Noodles," another freaky little number that has you
wondering just what the hell Kemo Sabe *really* means.
Appropriately enough, the album closes with Noodles, Rolexes and Fast
Women probably the dim remnants of a very naughty dream indeed. Listening
to the undeniable swing amidst all the electronic game-playing on this last
cut that recapitulates the whole album just about perfectly, we really have
to hope that this isnt just a one-off joke and that theres another
plateful of horse noodles out there, just waiting to be slurped.
