"How Can I Be Falling" is written by Mike Rizzo, Michael Guerriero and
Artie Skye. On this CD Single, there are 13 mixes: five radio edits, five
club mixes and three dubs. Remix duties are handled by Mike Rizzo, Dave
Aude, Peter Presta, Danny Tsettos and Ranpage. The track is very mainstream,
very bubblegum. For me, the song is weak, albeit a little
catchy. Jennifer's vocals are adequate, if not a little on the bland side. A
little grating on my nerves. So, here's a case where the remix production
will make it or break it. Peter Presta turns in the hardest of the vocal
mixes, and still, after listening to all these vocal versions, I find it's the
dubs that are the only tracks that can hold my interest. Dave Aude's dub
hits hard with a speed garage bassline while the vocals are totally
distorted with special effects, which was a smart move. He also adds in a
percussive male vocal stab which helps beef up the vibe- and just drops a
touch of the original vocal during the break.
Given Aude's spectacular
history of powerful and uplifting dubs, this one by comparison is
disappointing. The Danny Tsettos dub brings a progressive feel and oh well,
it's plain dull. The Peter Presta dub has a tribal feel and loops the vocals
a little. Oh well, nothing here too terribly exciting. All of these remixers
have turned out fierce remixes at one point or another, but in this
particular case, mediocrity rules.
