Jenna Drey - One Step Further

www.JennaDrey.com

Jenna Drey steps onto the scene with this selection of beautifully glitzy Dance-Pop/Hi-NRG fusions. Songs like "One Step Further" and "By The Way" are filled with chunky beats and flashy synths that underscore Drey's impressive three-octave vocal range. Lead single and energetically dramatic "Killin' Me" is featured in mixes from both Mike Rizzo and Giuseppe D filled with striking piano accents, while follow-up dance cut, the powerful "Why Should I Believe You" with its wonderfully arranged background vocals, is offered up in a trio of different mixes ranging from full throttle dancefloor stomper to anthemic Pop-Rock.

"Don't Wanna Cry Anymore" contrasts its swirling uptempo arrangement with a downbeat emotional feeling and provides a perfect companion piece to Drey's danced-up cover of the Air Supply tear jerker "All Out Of Love." The album's other cover song, this time escorting Boz Skaggs "We're All Alone" to the dancefloor, unfolds beautifully over a bassline that immediately brings to mind ABBA's "Mamma Mia," while "Thousand Times A Day" goes down a slinky Electro vibe before revving up the energy on the chorus.

Letting the pace cool down a bit are the dramatic ballad "Shadow of A Stranger" and the mid-tempo but still rhythmic track "Impossibility" with a slightly laid back Country influence on the guitar lines. The rest of the album is made up of straightforward pop cuts such as "I Told You So," "Breaking Me," or "Was It Something I Said," which are less satisfying, though I would have to admit that as a dance aficionado, these Pop-Rock cuts aren't really my forte. Still this album still gets a thumbs-up just based on the dance friendly tunes alone.
