Having previewed the occasional promo of a Jesika track for what seems like years now, I've never been a fan. To be fair, I should show my hand. I'm just not a fan of freestyle- as far as I'm concerned Shannon's "Let the Music Play" is about as deep in that genre I care to delve. So now in 2005, to be hearing this same sound is pure tedium to my ears. And maybe it's not the sound I dislike so much as it is the association with insipid, uninspiring vocals that seem to go hand in hand with the category. Although current groups like the Avenue D Girls use the format to much better effect. Jesika's voice, to me, is about as bland as can be without becoming completely invisible. There are 5 mixes here: "Electro" and Club, all remixed by the "DJG" crew, which consists of Chris "The Greek" Panaghi and Jeff Hanc.
The Club (house) mixes are slightly more tolerable, and the Massive Dub is the only one I think is halfway decent. However, the bombastic and generic synth lines just seem tired. Chris the Greek has a great history as a remixer, I recognize his accomplishments and dedication to dance music. And there are plenty of records I've trashed only to see them climb the charts to be "hits." So take my opinion with a grain of salt. If you dig the freestyle sound or want to hear some tried and true synth chord progressions atop a house beat, look into this one. You'll be wise to give it a preview before you buy the single, however. "Be My Lover" has no ties whatsoever to the La Bouche mega hit.
