'A Night In The Park' is the debut artist album from John Kelley, released on Ball of Waxx. This CD is comprised of ten singles that mostly center around Funky Breaks. After listening to the album several times, I couldn't help but have mixed feelings about this album. While some of the tracks are fantastic, some also feel pretty lackluster, simple tracks that are well-produced but lack much substance. However, there are a few tracks that save this CD. One such track is 'funkasaurus,' which is heavy on bleepy basslines, choppy vocals and breakdowns, and even has some pretty good turntable cuts. Unfortunately, this CD suffers from the same symptoms that most pop albums do, a handful of hits and a handful of filler. Clearly, John Kelley has the skills to make killer tracks, and while there are a few on the album, I can't help but wish there were more.
