Philadelphia-based Ovum Recordings is known not specifically for any certain genre, nor any one-shot single, but Ovum is in-fact well respected and renowned for the sheer quality of the music released under the imprint. Josh Wink's label and its artists have produced a large following among the transcontinental underground scene over the last decade or so. Wink's own styles of production and musical insight are as well known as the reputation of his live performances, all of them proven and unchallenged thus far.
OVUM: The Fall Collection (2004) is the newest release mix from Wink himself and boasts "10 years of music from Ovum Recordings." The compilation is full to the brim (and spilling over) with beautiful and sexy house music. From deep house to even deeper rhythms, this mix showcases Wink's talent as a producer, as well as most of his close Ovum family and friends. The Afro/Cuban and world-styled polyphonic percussion rhythms are found throughout most of the tracks, giving the deep and sometimes techy house music a common bond in cadence. The transitions of the mixes are silky smooth (of course), as long as the Nile, and the tracklisting is superb. Rulers of the Deep, David Alvarado, Ursula Rucker, DJ Stryke, and many more take center stage as Josh Wink expertly pilots the assemblage along gloriously.
I could say that this mix is a must have for deep house fans, or that is would be perfect for a sexy night on the town - I could say a lot of things. What I will say about Ovum Recordings is this: They bring it every time, no doubt.
