Junior Senior - Hey Hey My My Yo Yo

It feels like forever since the world’s favorite dynamic Danes conquered pop and dance charts everywhere with the unstoppable Move Your Feet, but in those intervening years, Junior Senior have, if anything, refined their sonic palette even further, taking all the best elements of pop, R&B, funk, dance, and all forms of party music and making them into something that will encourage even the most obstinate of asses to shake.

Those of us who’ve been waiting for a decade and a half for a new B-52s record can slake that particular thirst on “Take My Time,” which features vocals from both Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson, and which feels like it could have nestled gently among the songs on Wild Planet or any of that band’s classic 80s material. Similarly adding some classicism and respect to the proceedings are the backing vocals of The Velvelettes, who pop up on a majority of the tracks and add some girl group glitter and grit to the party.

Even people who bought Hey Hey My My Yo Yo on import from one of the two or three countries it was initially released in a couple of years back can find reasons to support this new domestic release, as it comes with a bonus disc of the Say Hello Wave Goodbye EP. Though the EP does not feature a version of that famous Soft Cell song, it is still a delicious serving of groovy dance music that can liven up any party it is deployed at.
