I could swear that fifty percent of this album is sung by Christina Aguilera! Am I dreaming? Is she guesting here? Now just for the record, I am just the shy and retiring type, however, The Quiet Hype is very sing-songy, sometimes cutesy, outgoing and social 90s-ish Pop music apparently.
Who are Jupiter Rising?
The duo of Spencer Nezey and Jessie Payo (who should lose the Aguilera impersonation) or Jupiter Rising is a potential hit machine. The first song, Falling Away is innocuous enough, and they have released it as the first single already. I wouldnt have done that only because it isnt all that special just nice.
The Quite Hype is a Slow Jam?
The title track is a slow jam with introspective, pondering lyrics. Over Again, a peppy moving tune with the repetitive hook of I love you over and over again... makes it a positive potential tune wedgie. When The Bass Drops evokes Salt N Pepa and their ilk to the maximum. It is one of the better tracks herein.
Summary
I surmise that the target demographic for Jupiter Risings music is 18 -24 or what used to be called bubblegum. After all, they have been the soundtrack on some youth-oriented television channels and the bed to commercials similarly aimed. Therefore, I may be too seasoned to appreciate it as their planners would like me to. One thing is for sure, this isnt your fathers dance music. My wish is that they keep on striving for timelessness as the press release states, and it will be interesting if they can offer some more mature versatility in their beats in the future. So the score ends with one fine star for good production, and another for evoking memories of the 1990s generation when Aguilera and her comrades came to the fore in contemporary hit music; equaling two LA Girl stars.
Released March 2009 on Chime Records.
