Post-Rock as we know it is entering the world's stage like a rabid dog in a nudist colony: screaming, biting, bloody, and writhing - But alas, in a good way. Not since the early 90s has indie rock music infiltrated the popular markets in such a way; and ever since the onset of top-notch Do-It Yourself recording software, indie rock and electronica have been gradually fusing to become that same rabid dog.
Here, I have a copy of KIDDERKIT's 4 track promotional 3-inch disc, packaged in an extremely unusual paper-ninja-star wrapper. The music within is obviously bedroom-styled indie post-rock in all its glorious fury, with a hint of New York nuance for good lookin' out. The opening track "Pop Your Cool" is an ultra Lo-Fi bouncy electro-rock piece with crooning vocals backed with subdued electric guitar. The 2nd track, "Is Is" begins with that slow-rolled snare and plain electric guitar driven sound that any sane Emo fan is used to - I rather like this arrangement. Track 3, "Hissy Fit", reminds me of a cross between old Thrill Kill Kult and Dimitri from Paris with Kiddarkit's vocals. The last piece is the down-styled "And Then What?" similar to "Is Is." Kidder's knack for this style of composition shines far brighter than his take on electro formats. I really look forward to seeing what else this artist can do as he evolves and his songwriting matures.
Overall, the production is extremely novice, but as with any bedroom disc, you must listen deeper than what the audio will allow. You must be able to hear what the artist is portraying and what they are capable of. Sometimes you just might find that diamond in the rough - in a rabid dog's belly
