Named after a fictitious band featured in New Order's "Crystal" video, The Killers are a Las Vegas-based quartet, making some real waves on the pop-rock scene. When the band was initially approached about releasing club mixes of their track "Somebody Told Me," they were apprehensive and only agreed to allow the re-workings if they could personally select the remixers and contribute feedback to the project. Josh Harris is up first and turns in two mixes, including a vocal club mix and instrumental-based dub. King Unique is also asked to lend a hand, and brings us a hard-tinged, alt-rock dance vocal mix and an absolutely killer, electro-inclined dub. While I understand the band wanting to retain creative power of their track, this EP proves that their supervision may have been too limiting as the tracks offered here play it very close to the vest and are a bit too rock based for most dance floors.
