It's two number one smashes in a row for former American Idol singer Kimberley Locke. After hitting the top spot with the remixes of her first single "Change," the label has sent out some mixes for her latest release, a remake of the Freda Payne chestnut "Band Of Gold." Not wanting to mess with a good thing, her label has brought back some of the folks who remixed her last track, including Scotty K and Almighty. New this time around are mixes by Bimbo Jones and Dave Aude. After all is said and done, we are left a collection of mixes that are sure to keep your toes tapping no matter what part of the weekend it is.
Bimbo Jones have been on a roll this year, doing mixes for everyone from Pink to Mika to Ciara. Now this duo turns this track into another floor filler. A throbbing bassline and some killer synth loops make this the toughest of the mixes. You could definitely play this on a Saturday night with no complaints. Kimberley's vocals are in full effect and not hidden behind any of the blips and bleeps. For something a little lighter and fluffier, look no further than the Almighty Extended Mix. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon, this mix actually uses the original rhythm track and makes their remix a disco laden piece of pop candy confection. Again, Kim's vocals are the highlight as she belts this out with all she has. Scotty K is on board again with his Klub Mix. Another upbeat and breezy production, my only complaint is that the synthesizers feel a bit too loud. They seem to overpower her vocals at times. Other than that, this mix is another fun time. Finally, Dave Aude's Club Mix is the most underground of all the mixes, though this song doesn't really need that dark of a mix. Lots of synths dominate this mix and there is some playing around with the vocals. Sometimes the vocals sound out of sync with the music, but overall the electro "I Feel Love" sound works, though not as well as the sunnier mixes provided by the other mixers.
Kimberley Locke is locking up her newfound status as a dance floor diva. "Band Of Gold" will surely find its way onto many a DJ's playlists thanks to superb remixes by those brought on board. It's a great tune for bringing some bright and shiny moments onto the dark floors this winter season.
