Louie Devito - 'Pacha New York'

Mainstream NYC Underground DJ Louie DeVito never dreamed he'd have a million-selling series of mix albums, but here we are for the umpteenth mix complilation from the new master. Dubbed "the Man With the Golden Ear" because of his ability to pick the next big hit, DeVito maintains a hectic DJ schedule putting him behind the decks for stellar venues like the Casbah in Trump's Taj Mahal and GQ's Man of the Year party. After all, he placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for his all-time best-selling DJ mix compilation, the New York City Underground Party series.

As for this mix, DeVito delivers some prominent hits in the underground scene. After a few listens I found myself getting hooked on his grooves and his smooth mixing methods. Pacha New York is a double disc effort that encompasses some of the largest names in electronic music. Each of these cuts is a surefire dance-floor gem, tested and approved by clubbers worldwide. On this selection the ensemble cast of deejays includes The Chemical Brothers, David Guetta, Axwell, Armand Van Helden, Benny Benassi, Tim Deluxe, and Sander Van Doorn.

My favorite tracks on the album included, from CD 1: "Bring the Noise" Remix (Pump-Kin Instrumental) Public Enemy Vs. Benny Benassi (purchase/download); "Higher State of Consciousness" (Dirty South & TV Rock Club Mix) Wink; "Do It Again" The Chemical Brothers; "Let The Beats Roll" (Club Mix) Tim Deluxe.
From CD 2: "No Deputy" Richard Grey; Warped Bass (Sharam's Blingy Remix) Richard Grey (purchase/download); "Unchain It" Richard Grey Vs Zoe; "9 AM Acid Trip" Mamba; "My Processor Cry" (Original Mix) Miami Attack; "Electric Pillow Talk" (Original) Johnny Gleeson.

Overall, I loved the fat, fresh, raw, analog sounds of most of the tracks that DeVito selected. Even when he could have gone totally mainstream, he shows a true respect and connection to the basic elements of house and techno. Appreciating these roots makes for a compilation that both house heads and newbies can appreciate and groove out to!
