Ten tracks from the twisted beat factory that is Lunaticworks, featuring 9
different artists. Fruitbat remixes the 40 second opening Prologue but
makes up for that shortie with the nearly 13 minute Zenuba from his
self-titled debut (see our review of that release as well.) The third
track here Rudys Got The Number is also the third track on another
LunaticsWorks release we reviewed, the first disc from Horace Noonkowics
aka Horse Noodles, also self-titled and somewhat reminiscent of the funky
vibes LTJ Bukems Cookin series does so well.
Its sandwiched nicely between Cordovans Barrio mix of Cant Find My Way
and the slightly creepy (in a good way) Seans Endeavor from Homo
Erectus. Track five might end up as number one with a bullet (tea) in
sushi bars across the land ? I mean Shroom Based Wasabi from Soy Sauce?
Probably a bit freaky for yer more mainstream raw fish lovers, tho. But
George Katsiris 1er Cru would probably do just fine in more trendy
spots, with the harp-pulls, vinyl scratches, upright samples and sexy piano
melodies. Definitely hand-roll friendly, if ya know what Im sayin.
Up next is Miss Marie (Jazz Singer) from Two a..m, another nice bit of
percussive downtempo that would also fit well into most neo-soul playlists.
Things get a bit more sci-fi on Clear from Chachi Jones with its rapid
fire cymbals and fuzzy pads over a clear and cold synth beat. Great stuff
and a good lead in for the perky weirdness of Crimes Of Luxury from Wind
Chill Factor featuring some of the most heartrending sobs heard since my
puppy got run over. That just leaves the aforementioned DnB opus from
Fruitbat to close out the disc, maybe a bit out of place with all the less
frenetic stuff the precedes it, but a nice kick in the pants nonetheless.
If you like your indie electronica served up with a bit o sass, this is
definitely the disc for you. Makes us want a taste of volumes 1 and 2 and
really glad we struggled through the interface at lunaticworks.com to find
out that volume 4 is on the way soon?
