Talk about the mother of all house compilation CDs, BBE/Rapster's
Kings of House featuring mixes by MAW's Kenny Dope and Little Louie
Vega really can't be topped. In fact, the tracklisting stands on its
own as a review. What can I possibly have to say that has not already
been said about Cajmere's Brighter Days, Blaze's If You Should Need a
Friend, Mr. Fingers' Can You Feel It and Hercules' 7 Ways to Jack?
Kings of House comes as a two CD/double LP set chock full of the house
classics to end house classics. I mean, those tunes that will send
you swinging from the rafters at the club- tunes that make you
understand what (a) trance really is.
We would not expect anything less from the undisputed kings of house
music. Masters at Work have, over the past fifteen years, turned
their naturally grown love of Latin and African rhythms into an empire
of deep organic house music. They boast a record label MAW Records
with several spin-off labels including Kenlou, Dopewax, and Vega
Records. The prolific duo boast well over one hundred releases
between them and annually hosts one of the hottest most exclusive
parties at the Winter Music Conference. In spite of all that, they
keep it real staying true to their Latin roots and making house music
that is full of depth and that still sounds like music. They truly
deserve the Kings of House moniker.
Kings of House is one of those no-brainers. There is no shortage of
dance music comps out there and very few of those are worth the
fifteen bucks you'll pay for them. This one however, is well worth
its weight in gold.
