A minx is a saucy or forward woman, so it follows that Madeline Minx should be a bawdy babe right? Not only that, but also she gets pushy and the only antidote is to "Unleash Your Soul" [CityHall Records]. She is self-deprecatingly delicious! DJs are going to want this in their bags of tricks, especially DJ se:ek's remix which is track four on the disc (However, I am getting ahead of myself). Track one, the radio edit, is actually my favorite, I just wish it were maybe another stanza longer and she would have vamped a little more.
Maybe because I've been a radio jock, I enjoy a certain sensitivity to what would work on the air. It is also the egg before the chicken thing. "Unleash Your Soul" fits the format of all the WKTUs of the radio world! I can imagine talking this one up to the post. Its piano intro is in a key similar to ole Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat," then within seconds she transports you to the dance floor. With each subsequent sexy listen, Madeline weaves you further into her web of fun. This record will surely unleash the dance from clubs to radio. Her voice is both airy and heavenly at once.
Back to the remixes- and while the one by Boris and Beck captures the essence of the single and is more 'breaky," Japan's DJ se:ek is getting playful with it. He really lets loose the butterfly that is Madeline Minx and, in my opinion, is more creative and mysterious. Track three is the Goldchains remix and makes more use of the bassline to up the ante in the house. The CD wraps with a dulcet number entitled "Kisses Like Candy," a beautiful word picture in and of itself, and yet another showcase of her nature.
Madeline Minx (formerly known as Pushy) calls her music "poptronica," and you know, dear reader, how I love coiners of phrases. She is full of raillery, funtastic, and keeps a great attitude. "Unleash..." is produced along with Steven Moon, her co-writer and arranger - formerly know as DJ Doubleclick, and studio producer Garth May.
Fresh off a tour of Japan, where she guested on a late night TV show called 'Super Enjoy Dance Attack with Coco' Madeline then tantalized the audiences in Korea. Singer, artist, politician (she ran for President on the Pushy Party platform of having a President and first lady in one in the White House), Minx has also enjoyed recent kudos from the throngs that absorbed her flirtatious energy at the very hot Pianos club in New York City. She describes herself as a woman of many personae, "many of us entertainers have to be such." She seems a true creative spirit. Madonna is one of her heroes, with whom she "feels a powerful, indescribable soul connection." Madonna, holla back at ya girl!
Her website is better than most up-and-comers I have viewed with a cornucopia of pictures, functional downloads, tour info, bio, and Minx news. Check her at www.getpushy.com, and be sure to tell them who sent you! Please vent, or "Unleash Your Soul." It is an ascension in sound that I trust with four stars on one condition - that we here much more from Michigan's Madeline Minx, as she says, "in a most 'attacking' way."
